Barbate, a romantic fisher village is directly
situated at the Atlantic, close to the Strait of Gibraltar.

In the centre of Barbate you will find the park "Plaza
de la Inmaculada".
On
one side of the park you see the townhall (Ayuntamiento),
and opposite to it is the old church "San Paulino".

"Barbate"
was in early times a destiny preferred by the Spaniards.
But in these days are coming more and more tourists
from all over the world to Barbate.
Here
in Barbate you can enjoy the delicious products of
the "Atlantic Ocean". Before anything else
the tuna "el atún".
With its large fisher port "Puerto de la Albufera"
this village harkens back to a thousand years old
tradition and art of fishing "La Almadraba".
The Restaurants in Barbate are specialised in dishes
of tuna.

Those
who love sporting can spend their leisure time with
different possibilities of sport. The leisure offers
are extending from sailing, windsurfing, diving, horse-riding,
cycling or climbing to hiking.

The
history of this area goes back to the 7th century.
Later, after the invasion of the Muslims, Barbate
belonged to the frontier area and had nearly no inhabitants.
The village had to be really re-populated.

In
the 15th and 16th century some towers were built to
defense themselves against pirate attacks. But with
less success. You can see today the remaining towers
as lighthouses of "Tajo", "Meca"
and "Trafalgar".

"Cape
Trafalgar" ("Cabo Trafalgar") became
famous during the "Battle of Trafalgar",
21st of October in the year 1805. The english fleet
under the administration of Admiral Nelson has defeated
the Spanish-French Fleet, and Admiral Nelson himself
found his death in it. As a testimony you can see
the lighthouse "Trafalgar".
The Trafalgar Square in London was named in memorial
to this event.

Welcome to this historical place and interesting landscaped
region!
