As
proof of the existence of inhabitants in Benalup since
prehistory you can still visit special places which
show pieces of the excavations.
First the town was under Muslim occupation, in the 13th
century the Christians reconquered the area, and there
are proofs of colonization in the 16th century.
The
foundation of Benalup as we know it, was finally in
the 19th century. The town-castle, known as the Tower
of the Moorish Girl ("Torre de la Marita"),
was built by the muslims for defence purposes. During
this time Benalup got its name:
Ben a lup = Son of the Wolf.
The
town became famous as an anarchist revolt broke out
in Casas Viejas in the year 1933. Since then Benalup
is a symbol of anarchist freedom.

Today
Benalup is not only part of the very well known Route
of the Bull "Ruta del Toro", but offers also
different leisure activities.
Beside walking and biking you can also enjoy the golf
courses.

The
area of "La Janda" has two golf courses with
18 holes. One of the golf-courses you can find dirctly
in Benalup-Casas Viejas.

If
young or old, the whole family can spend their holidays
here.

The
town itself consists of the Old Town with its small
alleys, the parks to sit down on a bank to relax a moment,
and the new part of Benalup.
The infrastructure offers all, what also a tourist appreciates:
Doctors, pharmacies, post, small shops, supermarkets,
fish market, boarding-houses up to luxury hotels.
