Medina
Sidonia belongs to the most beautiful white towns,
the "Pueblos Blancos", of Andalusia. The
3.000 years old town is declared as Historic and Artist
Zone and of Cultural Interest and has received a price
to the "Beautification of Andalusian Towns".

"Medina
Sidonia" was founded by the Phoenicians, and
was built on a more than 300m high hill, the so called
"Cerro del Castillo".
In the middle of the 15th Century the town became
part of the Dukes of Medina Sidonia.

Here you can experience the real history, because
many of the historic buildings of the past are still
existing. In a guided tour you can visit them, as
e.g. the archway "Arco de la Pastora" on
the "Plazuela de la Pastora".

The
town is situated directly on the so called "Bull
Route", because of the famous bull breeders which
have settled themselves in the surroundings with their
bull herds.

The
townhall ("Ayuntamiento") is in the centre
of the town, on a place with a fountain.
Here you can find several cake shops, and you should
try one of the most known deliciousness, the "Alfajor"
of Medina Sidonia.

Medina
Sidonia has the typical Andalusian charme with its alleys,
the typical white houses, the lots of flowers and plants,
and the little Restaurants and Bars.

In
Medina you can find the churches:
"Iglesia Mayor", the church "Iglesia
de Santiago", the "Los Santos Mártires"
Heritage , a visigothic architecture style, and the
monastery of Jesús, María and José.

Do
you want more culture? Then visit the Roman Excavations
( with hydraulic buildings from the 1st Century ), or
the "Villa Vieja", the fortress "Alcázar"
and the "Calzada Romana".

Beside the large fountain, which was built with old
Roman elements from the past, you will find a new
park.

Medina Sidonia is situated in beautiful landscapes
with a sensational panorama view.

Medina is a popular area for bicycle drivers, who
want to explore the interior of this part from the
coast. Much saught after is a trip from "Conil"
through "Los Naveros" to "Medina".
A route description you can find here.

Medina
is looking forward to your visit.
