Tarifa
is a very special town, due to its unique geograpical
location, its history, and its legends and myths.
Tarifa is situated at the southernmost end of Europe,
the"Strait of Gibraltar", just 14 km from
"Africa". And exactly here meets the Mediterranean
the Atlantic Ocean.
"Tarifa", the door between Africa and Europe,
has still well preserved architectural monuments from
its long, historic past.
Phoenicians,
Tartesser, Romans and Arabs left their tracks clear.
The current "Tarifa" got its name from the
military Berber leader Tarik Ben Malek, who captured
the Iberian Peninsula in 710.
Until October 1292 Tarifa was under Arabic rule. Then
it was conquered by "Sancho IV El Bravo"
king of Castile and Leon, and since then it belongs
to Spain.

Tarifa is one of the world's famous and best locations
for windsurfing. For decades windsurfing freaks are
coming from all over the world, and large competitions
are also held in Tarifa. Beginners and professionals
can enjoy their sport. Furthermore in recent years came
up a new sport, the kite surfing. And even hourly boat
trips for watching whales and dolphins are possible.
And those, who also want to see the underwater world,
can dive and observe the variety of animals and plants.
Whether
as a tourist or a resident of Tarifa:
It´s simply fun to walk at the beach promenade,
and to walk through the labyrinths of arabic alleys
and streets. Places of interest, such as e.g. the Castle
"Castillo de Sta.Catalina" and small shops
alternate.
